Flies can spread the \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0infection directly from stool to foods. Typhoid is a water and food borne disease. Poor as well as developing countries such as Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Shri Lanka, Bangldesh), African countries have Enteric fever as a major health menace.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0Symptoms<\/h3>\n<p>The symptoms of typhoid fever start 7-14 days after consuming food or drinks contaminated with the Salmonella typhi bacteria.<\/p>\n<p>Untreated typhoid runs a course having four classical stages each lasting for about a week.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fever with headache, malaise, relatively slow heart beats and cough.<\/li>\n<li>There may be abdominal pain and episodes of bleeding from the nose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Into the second week of untreated infection, symptoms seen are:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sattvam.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Typhoid-Enteric-fever-4.jpg\" alt=\"Typhoid (Enteric fever) 4\" width=\"220\" height=\"229\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1057\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sattvam.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Typhoid-Enteric-fever-4.jpg 220w, https:\/\/sattvam.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Typhoid-Enteric-fever-4-180x188.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Fever hovers around 40\u00b0C (104\u00b0F) with relatively low pulse rate.<\/li>\n<li>The abdomen seems bloated, distended and painful in the right lower quadrant. The bowel sounds are loud and audible.<\/li>\n<li>Minute &#8216;rose-colored&#8217; skin rash over the lower chest and upper abdomen, occur in nearly 50% of cases and last for 3 to 5 days.<\/li>\n<li>The person may appear to be in a delirious state, constantly muttering to himself or picking at the bed-sheets.<\/li>\n<li>Diarrhea may occur in this stage. Around 5 to 8 diarrheal stools, greenish, and looking like pea-soup are seen. However, constipation is more commonly seen.<\/li>\n<li>Joint pains may be present.<\/li>\n<li>The liver and spleen may seem enlarged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The 3rd week of untreated typhoid can present with life-threatening emergencies:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sattvam.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Typhoid-Enteric-fever-1.jpg\" alt=\"Typhoid (Enteric fever) 1\" width=\"249\" height=\"202\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1055\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sattvam.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Typhoid-Enteric-fever-1.jpg 249w, https:\/\/sattvam.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Typhoid-Enteric-fever-1-231x188.jpg 231w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 249px) 100vw, 249px\" \/><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Intestinal perforation &#8216; perforation of the walls of small intestine can be lfe-threatening.<\/li>\n<li>Bleeding into the intestines<\/li>\n<li>Spread of the infection to the brain via the blood causing inflammation of the brain.<\/li>\n<li>Inflammation of the gall-bladder, heart muscles; infections in the bones, and formation of abscesses within other important internal organs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Homeopathy in enteric fevers<\/h3>\n<p>Homeopathy\u00a0works for Enteric fever.
