This weakness comes up during periods of exertion and improves after rest.<br \/>\nMG is an abnormality of the\u00a0transmission\u00a0of signals at the Neuro-Muscular Junction (NMJ). (Signals travel from brain to muscles via the nerves and the place where nerve joins muscle is called neuro-muscular junction.)<\/p>\n<h3>Whom can it affect?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Females are affected more often than males<\/li>\n<li>Age of onset in females is during second to third decade<\/li>\n<li>Onset is after sixth decade in males<\/li>\n<li>2 out of every 100000 people are affected by MG<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Causes of MG:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Genetic<\/li>\n<li>Immunological<\/li>\n<li>Thymus tumors or abnormal enlargement (hyperplasia)<\/li>\n<li>Stress (aggravating factor in existing cases of Myasthenia Gravis)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Muscles usually affected by MG:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Muscles controlling eye and eyelid movements<\/li>\n<li>Muscles of facial expression<\/li>\n<li>Muscles of swallowing<\/li>\n<li>Neck and limb muscles<\/li>\n<li>Occasionally respiratory muscles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Symptoms of MG:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sattvam.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Myasthenia-Gravis.jpg\" alt=\"Myasthenia Gravis\" width=\"242\" height=\"208\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-881\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sattvam.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Myasthenia-Gravis.jpg 242w, https:\/\/sattvam.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Myasthenia-Gravis-218x188.jpg 218w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 242px) 100vw, 242px\" \/><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Drooping eyelids (ptosis)<\/li>\n<li>Double vision (diplopia)<\/li>\n<li>Difficulty in speech, slurred speech<\/li>\n<li>Difficulty in swallowing<\/li>\n<li>Nasal sounding speech<\/li>\n<li>Weakness of neck muscles<\/li>\n<li>Weakness of arms and legs<\/li>\n<li>Symptoms are usually intermittent (i.e. come and go)<\/li>\n<li>Symptoms may disappear for weeks and may appear again, later<\/li>\n<li>Weakness tends to worsen as the day progresses and after prolonged activity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Myasthenia Crisis:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A condition in which respiratory muscles become severely weakened<\/li>\n<li>Patient may have breathlessness, choking, aspiration of food<\/li>\n<li>Myasthenia crisis is\u00a0rare\u00a0and may end in respiratory failure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Grades of MG:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Grade 1: Only ocular disease<\/li>\n<li>Grade 2A: Mild generalized weakness<\/li>\n<li>Grade 2B: Moderate generalized weakness<\/li>\n<li>Grade 3: Severe generalized weakness<\/li>\n<li>Grade 4: Myasthenia crisis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Triggers of Myasthenia Crisis:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Respiratory viral infections<\/li>\n<li>Sudden withdrawal of steroids<\/li>\n<li>Certain drugs<\/li>\n<li>Psychological stress<\/li>\n<li>Pregnancy<\/li>\n<li>Exertion (especially in hot climate)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Homeopathic approach and scope:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sattvam.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Myasthenia-Gravis2.jpg\" alt=\"Myasthenia Gravis2\" width=\"194\" height=\"260\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-883\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sattvam.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Myasthenia-Gravis2.jpg 194w, https:\/\/sattvam.net\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Myasthenia-Gravis2-140x188.jpg 140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 194px) 100vw, 194px\" \/><\/h3>\n<p>Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune disorder, which means that there is a fault with the immune system, guided by genetic tendencies and other general factors.
