The prostate is a small gland of size and shape of walnut and is an integral part of male reproductive system.

Many symptoms of BPH are related more to the urinary system rather than prostate per se. The symptoms include increased frequency of urination, especially at night time, difficulty in initiating flow of urine, straining for urine, urgency for urination etc.

The major risk for having BPH is advancing age. Hormonal disturbances associated with increasing age are thought to be at the root of this condition.
